About Sandstrom Dental

A dental practice in Mesa built around adults and older patients. They have real dental histories, existing work that needs looking after, and often a good reason to be wary of the chair.

Meet Dr. Sandstrom

Paul R. Sandstrom, DMD

Dr. Sandstrom's work is mostly restorative: implants, crowns, bridges, root canals and extractions. The kind of dentistry people need when a tooth has already been through something.

What does not change from one patient to the next is how the conversation goes. You get told what is actually in your mouth, what the choices are, and which one he would pick. Then it is your call.

How treatment gets decided

Four steps, always in this order

The order is the point. The recommendation comes last, after you have seen what we have seen. It does not come first, with the reasons filled in afterwards.

01

We look properly

A full examination and the X-rays needed to see what is actually going on, rather than treating the tooth you came in about and stopping there.

02

We tell you what we found

In plain language, with the images on the screen in front of you. If something is worth watching rather than treating, you will be told that at this point and not later.

03

We lay out the options

Including the option to do nothing for now, where that is genuinely reasonable. Each one comes with what it involves and what it asks of you.

04

You decide

Not in the chair, under pressure, on the day. Take the information home if you want to. Nothing gets booked because you felt you could not say no.

The people you will see

A hygiene team patients stay for

Long-tenured and familiar. It is the reason a lot of families have kept coming here for years. You see the same faces, and they remember your mouth and what you are like in the chair.

We will tell you if you don't need it

The thing patients write about most is the treatment they were not sold. If a tooth can be watched rather than drilled, that is what we will say.

Built around sensitive patients

Nervous, sensitive, or putting off a visit you know you need: that is most of who we see. We go slower, we explain first, and we stop when you ask.

If you have been putting it off

Tell us that when you book

A lot of people arrive here having avoided a dentist for years, and usually because of something that happened at one. You will not be lectured about the gap, and nobody is going to react to what they find.

Saying "I am nervous" when you call genuinely changes the appointment. It changes how long we book, how much gets explained before anything happens, and how often we stop to check you are alright. If you would rather come in just to talk and look, with no treatment at all that day, ask for that. It is a normal thing to book.

The same goes for being sensitive to dental work. It is one of the things patients here write about most, and it is worked around rather than pushed through.

They are so friendly, professional and do not try to push treatments I don't need. I love them!

Not sure what you need?

That's okay.

Many patients come in knowing something isn't right but aren't sure what treatment they need.

We'll start with a conversation and a thorough evaluation. Dr. Sandstrom will explain what he sees, discuss your options, answer your questions, and help you decide what makes sense for you.
